In a new kingdom, Auren must decide who are her allies and who are her enemies before the schemes of all those around her suffocate her. Thankfully, she didn't get too many pages in the book, and most of the story was focused on Auren and Slade. It was really sad to see how lonely Auren felt, but at the same time, I feel that it gave her that final push to finally start to put herself first and be willing to say “no”. King Midas has stepped in to help rule after the death of his former ally, King Fauke, has left the Kingdom with a Prince too young to reign. Locked away in a castle on the snowy mountains in the Sixth Kingdom of Orea, I have never known freedom.

While I appreciated seeing Auren become more independent, I had some major problems with the romance. This book has significantly more plot than the prior two books, including a few different interweaving story lines. We all expected a relationship to develop and for there to be romance, but again, this girl is just coming out of a manipulative relationship, is having feelings for another man (who shows her a different face when they're alone, which she questions), and then just says f*ck that, I'll jump his bones?Other cancelled products: If you want to cancel products that are not damaged or incorrectly supplied, then you must inform us of this within seven working days following the date of receipt in accordance with the Distance Selling Regulations or otherwise as soon as possible. That whole, 'I'm going to play the obedient pet and secretly plot my way out' was BS - she simply tells everyone to f*ck off and then is surprised when there are consequences. You can tell Midas doesn’t want to agree but Auren has been shining up the spine a bit in her time with Commander Rip and she pushes hard until he is forced to acquiesce on some things because he needs her. It's actually insane how vastly different my rating for book 1 and 3 are, but I can definitely say that I don't regret reading this series.

Pink Mackayla Lane - I love Darkfever but it was impossible for you to turn stabby-spear-lethal with zero training overnight). She finally knows her worth and sees Midas for the person he really is, while still being a kind-hearted person. so far, the H is all bark and no bite, bUT damn THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DISPLAYS OF ✨CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT✨ I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A HEROINE. I presume she will stay in the story as the next villain along side King Midas' dethroned, exiled Queen. each character goes through their own development - some for the better, some for the worse, but all for the entertainment.She was a tyrant in all but name and I didn't want to continue on with her side plot, but alas I am not in charge of anything.

I mentioned that there is a lot of sexual tension and also some angst between Auren and Slade, but we can also see that it's more than just sexual attraction between them. Like in the previous book, we get two twists that I, once again, didn't expect but made sense and were great ideas.Queen Malina still has a few chapters in this book, and honestly, I found them as boring as the ones in Glint. There were some enjoyable things, especially at the beginning, but I still have whiplash from all the cringing I did over their romance, so this gets three stars. based on the ending, i think we’ll be able to finally see them together more in the next installment. I feel that this review is only about Auren and Slade, but truly that's what I loved the most about this book. I instantly find myself wishing that things were different, that we had met under other circumstances.
